Number of flu cases on the rise
MANILA -- The Department of Health (DOH) announced a spike of more than 1,500 cases of influenza this year.
From last year's 67,168 flu cases, there are now 68,693 flu cases this 2015.
Influenza is a viral infection that can easily be transmitted and might result to bacterial infection due to the patient's deteriorating health, according to infectious disease expert Dr. Rey Salinel.
"'Yung trangkaso naman is all year round, madaling mailipat din through respiratory droplets, laway tumalsik, nalanghap nu'ng isa, hawa na 'yan," he said.
The illness' symptoms include coughing, colds, and high fever.
To avoid the flu, DOH urged the public to avoid crowded places, to keep at least one meter distance away from flu patients, and to make hand washing a habit.
In line with this, authorities are encouraging the public to observe the Global Handwashing Day on October 15, 2015 to help drive awareness on the importance of frequent hand washing.
