KIDS MAY BE PRONE TO IMPETIGO, SALMONELLA, E. COLI THIS SUMMER
MANILA - Summer is the perfect time to go to the beach. And because kids are on break from school, they are often playing outside.
However, experts warn that summer is also the time when bacteria is likely to spread. They can spread through the air, hide in our clothes and infect our skin.
This includes the bacteria Staphylococcus Aureus, which is often found in the skin.
"Pag pinagpapawisan [dahil] mainit, maalinsangan, tapos magkakamot, nag-i-invite ka ng bacteria to seep in. Dito mag-uumpisa na ang mga sugat, mga pigsa, mga pagnanaknak,'' said Dr. Rey Salinel, infectious disease expert.
The public are also warned against diseases like cough, flu, fever and stomach ache.
To prevent these, Dr. Salinel recommends frequent and proper washing of the hands.
"More than 90% - 95% of infection ay mababawasan sa tamang paghuhugas ng kamay," he said. "Kailangan pumasok doon 'yung antibacterial property [ng sabon] para mas ma-eradicate ang infection."
Meanwhile, experts also warn of common summer diseases such as cough, flu, fever and stomach ache.
