MANILA - The World Health Organization (WHO) warned that diseases may result from contamination in unclean kitchens.

In a report on "Pamilya On Guard: Germ Expose," microbiologist Windell Rivera said wrong cleaning practices may cause contamination in the kitchen.

Maaaring maging source 'yon ng contamination," he said.

Among possible germ hot spots in the kitchen are areas where leftover food are placed, and unclean dishes and utensils.

The WHO said bad cleaning habits can lead to the spread of more than 200 kinds of diseases in the kitchen.

This is because from the preparation of the ingredients, to cooking the food, to serving it on the table, bacteria can strike at any time.

To avoid this, more attention must be given to cleaning dishes and kitchens, he said.
