1 in 9 Filipinos suffer tooth decay, DOH says
Tooth decay is one of the primary oral health problems among many Filipinos.
According to Department of Health, 92.4% of Filipinos suffer from tooth decay, with 90% of tooth decay happening in the back molars. One of the symptoms of tooth decay is severe back molar pain.
Many thought that brushing everyday is enough, but it's also important to consider the right type of toothbrush as back molars, which could be host to plaque, are hard to reach especially with regular size toothbrush head.
"Halimbawa small mouth ka lang, gumamit ka na lang ng small head toothbrush para maabot mo 'yung mga posterior teeth," said Dr. Erlinda Alipio, dentist at Alipio Dental Clinic.
To avoid tooth decay, make sure to brush teeth in a circular motion twice a day and use a toothbrush with extra small brush head.
