'Mother’s touch' among alternative therapies against colds
In the season when children are more exposed to cold-causing viruses, a health expert suggests using alternative ways to treat common colds.
“‘Yung paghaplos sa katawan ay nakatutulong para mag-improve ‘yung circulation and boosts the immune system,” Dr. Rey Salinel, an infectious disease expert, said.
Mafi Bamba, a mother who uses natural ways to heal her son, says water therapy is an effective treatment against colds.
Salinel adds that getting enough rest and ingesting a bowl of hot soup can help in the recovery process. He also recommends using a vapor rub to stimulate the body’s circulation and relieve the symptoms of coughs and colds.
“‘Yung paghaplos sa katawan na may kasamang menthol kagaya ng vapor rub ay nakakagaan ng pakiramdam dahil amoy pa lang ay nakakaginhawa na,” he said.
After learning this, Bamba started massaging her son’s back and chest with a mentholated vapor rub.
“‘Pag napahiran ko na sila ng vapor rub ay nakikita kong gumagaan ang pakiramdam nila. Bilang nanay, ‘pag nakikita ko silang gumiginhawa ang pakiramdam ay nawawala ang kaba ko,” Bamba said.
If a cold persists for more than three days, it is advised to consult a doctor.
